WHY CANCORP

Four reasons the job goes better here

Most of what ranks for embroidery in Calgary either ships the work in from another province or sells hobby supplies to people stitching at home. This is a working apparel shop in the northeast, and the difference tends to show up on the garments.

A workroom you can walk into

The embroidery machines are at Bay 1, 2320 35 Avenue NE, which means you can bring garments in, look at a stitch-out before the run starts, and collect the order once it is done.

That matters more than it sounds, because a logo that looks perfectly good on a screen can sit badly on a cap brim or pull on a knit polo. Seeing it stitched onto the actual garment is how those problems get caught while they are still easy and cheap to fix.

Your logo becomes a stitch file

Embroidery cannot read a JPG, so somebody has to convert your logo into a stitch file, setting the density, the underlay and the order the machine sews in. That conversion is called digitizing, and it is where most embroidery quietly goes wrong.

We do it in house, which means that when a first sample shows a letter closing up or a gradient that will never translate into thread, we change the file rather than explaining to you why it cannot be changed.

Garments you already own

Perhaps you are part-way through a uniform contract, or a supplier has sent you blank jackets, or a club has kit from last season that needs this year's crest on it. Send them in and we will decorate them.

Most shops would rather sell you their own stock and decorate that, so bringing your own garments tends to be treated as a favour elsewhere. Here it is simply one of the two normal ways a job comes through the door.

Brands worth putting a logo on

CanCorp holds a direct account with Under Armour, which most decorators do not, and we also customize Nike, Champion, New Era, Eddie Bauer, Calvin Klein, Puma, OGIO, Flexfit, Roots73, Bella + Canvas, New Balance, Gildan and Fruit of the Loom.

Whether the job calls for workwear that survives a season on site or a soft polo somebody will actually wear on their own time, tell us which of the two you are after and we will put the right garments in front of you.

WHAT WE STITCH

Embroidery for businesses, teams and crews

Bulk and repeat work, kitted out so that the tenth reorder still looks like the first one.

Workwear and uniforms

Hi-vis, shop shirts, coveralls, softshells and jackets, marked up per crew or per department, with names added wherever you need them.

Corporate and staff apparel

Polos, oxfords, fleece and outerwear for offices, dealerships, trades and front-of-house staff, chosen so that people keep wearing them after work rather than leaving them in a locker.

Teams, clubs and schools

Crests, club names and player names on warmups, jackets and bags, set up so that next season's intake matches the kit that is already out there.

Caps and headwear

Flat-front, structured and trucker styles. Cap embroidery runs on different framing and backing from a flat garment, which is why the cap style changes the price and is worth mentioning when you ask for one.

HOW IT RUNS

What actually happens to your logo

Four decisions sit between the file you send us and the finished garment, so it is worth knowing who makes each one and what it changes.

Digitizing

Your logo is redrawn as stitches, with the density, the underlay and the sequence set for the fabric it is going onto, which is why a file digitized for a knit polo will pucker if you put it on a cap. We keep a version per garment type, so reorders come back identical to the first run.

  • Stitch file per garment
  • Reorders match
  • Adjusted in house

Placement and sizing

Left chest, full back, sleeve, cap front and collar each have a size range that reads well and a point past which the detail closes up. We confirm both the placement and the size on a mock-up before anything is framed.

  • Left chest
  • Cap front
  • Sleeve and back

Thread and colour

Thread colours are matched to your brand palette from the physical thread range rather than from a screen, because a monitor will mislead you about both. Where a brand colour has no thread that matches it, we show you the two closest and you choose.

  • Brand colour matching
  • Consistent across reorders

Caps against flat garments

Caps are framed and stitched differently from shirts and jackets, which is why some shops quote them slowly or send them out to somebody else. Tell us the cap style when you brief the job and it gets priced alongside everything else.

  • Structured and flat brim
  • Trucker styles
  • Priced with the order

HOW IT WORKS

Four steps from brief to delivery

Tell us the job

Start with the garment, the quantity and where the logo goes. You do not need finished artwork at this stage, because a sketch or a photo of an old print tells us enough to price the work, and we come back with garment options, pricing and a schedule.

Pick the garment

Choose from the brands we carry, or send in garments you already own. Both routes run through the same workroom, and neither one is treated as the awkward exception.

Approve the artwork

Before anything goes onto a machine we confirm the placement, the size and the colours with you, and nothing runs until you have said yes to what you are looking at.

We produce it

The work is made at Bay 1 on 35 Avenue NE, so you can collect it here in Calgary once it is finished, or we will ship it out to you.

QUESTIONS

Embroidery questions we get asked in Calgary

How much does custom embroidery cost in Calgary?

Printing and embroidery as low as $3.50 a piece when you supply the garment, or $10 with the garment included.

Beyond that, embroidery is priced on three things: the garment itself, the stitch count of your logo, and how many pieces are in the run. A small left-chest logo on a polo and a large multi-colour back piece on a jacket are genuinely different jobs, and they price differently.

Send us the logo and the quantity through the form and you will get real numbers back rather than a range.

Can you embroider garments I supply?

Yes, and it is a normal way to work here. Uniforms you already own, club kit from last season, blanks that arrived from a supplier: send them in and we will decorate them.

Do tell us the garment and the fabric when you get in touch, because knits, softshells and waterproofs each need the stitch file set up differently if the result is going to sit properly.

What is digitizing, and does it have to be redone on a reorder?

Digitizing is the conversion of your logo into a stitch file, which sets the path the needle takes, the density, the underlay and the order the machine sews in. It is done once per logo per garment type.

Once your file exists we keep it, so reorders run from the same file and come back looking like the batch before them.

How many pieces do I have to order?

There is no minimum on custom t-shirts or embroidery, so whether you need one piece or five hundred, the job runs through the same shop.

In practice most runs here are crews, teams and staff groups rather than single pieces, so tell us what the job actually is and the pricing will follow it.

How long does an embroidery order take?

Standard turnaround is three business days from artwork approval, and if you need the order sooner than that, a 24 hour rush is available.

The schedule depends on the garment being in stock, on the digitizing, and on how quickly you approve the mock-up. If you are working to a deadline, put the date in the message and we will tell you straight away whether it is workable.

Do you embroider caps?

Yes, in structured, flat brim and trucker styles. Cap embroidery uses different framing and backing from a flat garment, which is why some shops quote caps slowly or send them out, so tell us the cap style in the form and it will be priced with the rest of the order.

Can you match my brand colours?

Thread colours are matched to your palette from the thread range we hold. Thread is not ink, though, so there is not a swatch for every brand colour in existence. Where there is no exact match we show you the closest options and you choose before the run starts.

How long have you been doing this?

CanCorp is in its fifteenth year under the current owner, and the embroidery side is older still, because it grew out of JBM Embroidery, which has been running in Calgary since 1996.

Where are you, and can I come in?

We are at Bay 1, 2320 35 Avenue NE in Calgary, and you are welcome to drop garments off, look at samples and pick orders up. Call 403-536-0759 before you come so that the right person is on the floor when you arrive.

NEXT STEP

Send us the logo and the quantity

We will come back with garment options, pricing and a production schedule. A sketch or a photo is enough to start with.
